Agadir to Taghazout & Imsouane: The Ultimate Moroccan Surf Road Trip

The Legendary Atlantic Coastal Drive (90 km)

There is no better feeling than picking up your rental car directly at Agadir Al-Massira Airport or your hotel, rolling down the windows to the Atlantic ocean breeze, and heading north along the iconic coastal highway N1.

This 90-kilometer coastal road trip takes you through Morocco’s premier surf territory, connecting the modern buzz of Agadir with bohemian fishing villages, dramatic cliffs, and endless ocean viewpoints.

Stop 1: Aourir & Banana Village (12 km from Agadir)

Just 15 minutes north of Agadir lies Aourir, famously known as Banana Village due to the dense banana groves lining the riverbed. Stop by the roadside stalls for fresh sweet bananas and fresh mint tea, or enjoy grilled tajines with the locals before hitting the surf spots.

Stop 2: Taghazout Village & Anchor Point (20 km)

Taghazout is Morocco’s international surfing capital. Stroll through the whitewashed alleys, explore rooftop oceanfront cafes, and park above Anchor Point to watch world-class surfers carve waves off the rocky headland.

Car Recommendation: A compact SUV like the Dacia Duster is the favorite choice for surfers and road-trippers here — offering generous luggage capacity for surfboards and high ground clearance for rocky beach parking.

Stop 3: Boilers, Tamri & Desert Dunes (45 km)

Continuing north, the landscape transforms dramatically. You will pass Boilers surf break (recognizable by the old shipwreck boiler visible at low tide) and the river delta of Tamri, home to wild desert sand dunes tumbling directly into the crashing ocean.

Stop 4: Imsouane & The Bay (85 km)

Descending the steep mountain switchbacks into Imsouane rewards you with one of the most stunning panoramic coastal views in all of Africa. The Bay offers wave rides lasting up to 2 minutes, while the rustic port serves freshly grilled sardines right off the wooden boats.

Local Driving Tips for this Route:
